IAM is the Highest-Signal Indicator

The depth of a candidate's IAM understanding predicts overall cloud security competence more reliably than any other dimension. Not just "I can write a policy" but "I understand evaluation order, I can identify privilege escalation paths, I know where the IAM model breaks down." Probe IAM deeply at every level.

Attacker mindset separates levels. An IC3 who can configure security controls is useful. An IC4 who can think about how an attacker would bypass those controls — and designs defenses accordingly — is fundamentally more effective.

"We use Wiz / Prisma Cloud / Orca" is not a cloud security skill. Probe for what they did with the findings and what systemic changes prevented recurrence.
