DevSecOps sits at the intersection of DevOps, AppSec, and Cloud Security — specifically the discipline of embedding security controls, testing, and governance into the software delivery pipeline as automated, continuous, and developer-transparent as possible.
 

The Key Distinction

"DevSecOps" without "Dev" is SecOps with better tooling. A candidate who configures security scanners but cannot write automation code, cannot build integrations between security tools and developer workflows, and cannot design custom scanning rules is a security operations specialist — not a DevSecOps engineer. Programming ability is non-negotiable at IC3+.

False positive management is the single most revealing signal. Anyone can add a scanner to a pipeline. Making the scanner output useful — tuning rules, configuring severity thresholds, building developer trust — is where the actual engineering lives. Probe for false positive rate, how they measure it, and what they've done to reduce it.
