The Distinction: Order Taker vs. Product Partner
An order-taking designer receives requirements from PM and produces screens. A product partner identifies problems, proposes solutions, influences product direction, and uses design as a tool for thinking about the product — not decorating it. Order-takers cap at IC3. Product partners start at IC3 and scale.
"Pixel-perfect" is not a compliment at IC4+. Visual craft is table stakes. The differentiating signal is problem-framing, systems thinking, and product influence.
