What Wizhire Screens for in SRE
Incident response is the most revealing signal. Ask for a detailed walkthrough of a major incident they led: how they detected it, how they diagnosed it, how they coordinated the response, how they communicated, and what changed afterward. The quality of their incident narrative — clarity, systematic thinking, appropriate mitigation vs. root cause separation, blameless framing — tells you more than any technical quiz.
SLO literacy is non-negotiable at IC4+. A Senior SRE who cannot define an SLO, calculate an error budget, or explain why 99.9% and 99.99% require fundamentally different architectures is below bar.

The distinction between an ops engineer and an SRE: the SRE eliminates the conditions that create toil, not just automates the toil faster.
